Fashion Sucess, Fails and Hotties at the BAFTAs 2011

On the 13th February 2011 the stars turned out in their hundreds to attend the BAFTA's. On the red carpet there were some stunning frocks.... and some truly hideous ones.

Jessica Alba stunned in a regal blue Versace gown- It was a gorgeous flowing dress and as she presented an award she looked great. Shame her necklace looked like a 3 year old had made it for her.
Verdict : Hot

Hailee Steinfeld wore a mature Mui Mui dress that added years to the 14 year old how ever if she’d worn anything more revealing we’d be calling her a slut and anything frilly would give her a cupcake edge. She looked incredible but not as youthful as one would hope. The star of True Grit looked disappointed in the ceremony as BAFTAS passed her by.
Verdict : Average

Emma Watson bopped up in a Valentino number that I’d personally take a pair of scissors to. The ruffle-tastic, one shoulder, lace embellished, pleated dress had a bit too much going on – hacking off the hideous ruff would have been a start. Still unsure about the new pixie haircut and caterpillar eye brow combo.
Verdict : Grim

Helena Bonham Carter was dressed pretty normally! Going for a classic split leg dress and jacket with her hair piled up messily. This is a vast improvement on her Golden Globe odd shoes outfit. Personally I think the odd shoes were a great touch – if you can afford shoes in both colours why not? Her rambling acceptance speech for best supporting actress was full of thanks and praise for her co-stars, industry figures and much love sent to her Family.
Verdict : Average

Amy Adams went for a beaded salmon Ellie Saab number. The trendy spring colour is a little has been, totally washed her out and the paneling did nothing for her shape but it was a good start.
Verdict : Grim

Eva Green wore a gothic Tom Ford creation that washed her out and made her look top heavy. The burlesque diva look didn’t work this time.
Verdict : Grim

Minnie Driver looked like she was still desperately trying to bag a role in Black Swan. Definition tacky.
Verdict : DISASTER

Felicity Jones went for a ballerina style prom dress by Chanel, the classic shape was youthful and suited the Brummy starlet.
Verdict : Hot

Thandi Newtons Monique Lhuillier gown was bright fuscia and complimented her skin tone perfectly. The dress was made up of swathes of pink prints that were draped and rouched artfully. A red carpet hit!
Verdict : Hot

Noomi Rapace, star of girl with the dragon tattoo made an interesting dress choice with this gold Givenchy frock. The overly embellished gown was ‘set off’ by a Gaga-esque studded belt. It certainly was a red carpet, show stopping dress but I’m still undecided about whether this was a good choice.
Verdict : Undecided

Kimberly Walshe's vintage Ashley Isham frock was gorgeous if not a little curtainy but showed off a little too much of her ample bosom, she was closely followed by Sarah Harding who matched the carpet in pillar box red. Her dress was split to the crotch, her hair was a mess and her make up had been applied with a trowel. Not a great look.
Verdict : Average

Colin Firth and his wife Livia made a dashing entrance and Livia looked understated in understated Nina Scardia. The neckline was a little unflattering, and the outfit could have done with a touch of embellishment or an accessory or two!
Verdict : Average

Jameela Jamils D&G poppy print dress was gorgeous, with a touch of lace and a tiny cinched waist – there was a undeniable hint of summer table cloth about the dress however.
Verdict : Hot

Hofit Golan wore the same dress in a different print but the similarity wasn’t TOO obvious. Still, polka dots are more high street than high fashion darling.
Verdict : Average

Tilda Swinton has had some memorable red carpet hits and misses but this year was a complete success in a painfully chic tux style trouser suit. Gorgeous!
Verdict : Hot

Tracey Emins hair made more of an impression than her dress, probably a good thing as her Westwood dress looked like she was wearing left over Christmas wrapping paper. Sorry Viv, I love you but that dress is awful.
Verdict : DISASTER

Meredith Ostram forgot half of her Julien Macdonald dress so as she is only half dressed I feel it would be harsh to pass judgment. Wait… that is her dress?  Oh dear.

Rosamund Pike’s Alexander McQueen dress was a little on the garish side but… Its McQueen. We cannot fault a legend and the colour didn’t wash her out as it would many a star.
Verdict : Average

J K Rowling may have written some great books but her snake skin halter dress looked dreadful and more 'Pri' than 'Marni'!
Verdict : Grim

Natascha McElhone got nude so right and dazzled like a fairy princess on the red carpet in a gown by Escada. The gloves belonged in the fancy dress box however.
Verdict : Stunning

Gerard Butler
Verdict : Hot

Andrew Garfield
Verdict : Grumpy but Slick

Nick Hoult
Verdict : Hot

There were a few dashing young men on the red carpet as well including Tom Ford, Gerard Butler and Skins star Nick Hoult. The social network scoops a handful of awards with Jesse Eisenberg looking chuffed and co-star Andrew Garfield looking a little grumpy as many of his nominated awards went the ‘The Kings Speech’.

Samuel L Jackson decided to wear trainers with his suit and oversized specs. The Pulp Fiction star has still got it!
Verdict : Hot (but obviously a little to old for me to find attractive)

Watching the awards at home meant I could concoct all sorts of bitchy witticisms about some of the women on the red carpet but this year has mainly been a clean sweep of style success! How proud are we to be British!
Much Love
