Perfume divides the Nation according to Debenhams

Ever thought the air smelt sweeter up North?Read More

This may be because women living north of the Midlands opt to buy sweet, floral fragrances. Southerners how ever are wearing musky, woody and even male perfumes!

Northern and Scottish women are drawn to glamorous, sweet girly fragrances such as the current best seller Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. Other best sellers are Chanel Chance, Gucci Guilty, Paco Rabanne Lady Million, Chanel No. 5 and Givenchy Play for Her.
Another discovery of the research was that in the North women are loyal to their perfume brands buying bigger bottles to last months, how ever it was also found that they are more likely to spritz with perfume up to 5 times a day which may explain the big bottles!
Southern ladies are buying musky fragrances with a masculine edge such as Clinique’s Aromatics Elixir. Men’s scents have shown to be popular amongst women on a night out of a more dramatic intense smell borrowing their other halves aftershave on average once a fortnight! How ever in comparison to the northerners women from the south only spritz once or twice a day and are likely to go the entire day perfume free before spritzing for a night on the town. Being unfaithful to their perfume brands is also common in the south with women opting to buy many little bottles and interchanging their smells regularly.

Women from the Midlands and Wales have been shown to be the most traditional wearing classic perfumes such as Chanel No. 5.
The Irish are going for fresh, light fragrances even through out the winter! The most popular scents currently are Calvin Klein Euphoria and Marc Jacobs Daisy.
The gents aren’t too bothered and favourites vary little!
The north/south divide does not end with fragrance. Northern women are snapping up high heels and party dresses while women of the south are wearing edgier fashion to match their edgy perfume tastes.
